Penn Flutes

One of the largest active flute choirs in the United States, Penn Flutes includes flutists from the ranks of Penn undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the surrounding community. Repertoire spans a variety of genres from the Renaissance through Modern eras, and select members may be offered the opportunity to perform on piccolo as well as bass and alto flutes.

Join us in celebrating live music and improvisation with an evening of eclectic jazz performances. The talented young musicians of the Penn Jazz Ensembles will perform and improvise on music ranging from 1920's traditional jazz to new music composed and arranged by the student performers.



Orpheus Uncovered

Opera and Musical Theater Workshop & Baroque Opera from Monteverdi to Gluck

Orpheus Uncovered presents the story of Orpheus and Eurydice as narrated in music by composers who wrote operas based on this myth: Claudio Monteverdi, Stefano Landi, Luigi Rossi, Antonio Sartorio, and Christoph Willibald Gluck (with, respectively, librettists Alessandro Striggio Jr., Anonymous, Francesco Buti, Aurelio Aureli, and Ranieri de' Calzabigi). This Baroque pasticcio is fully staged and sung in Italian.

Visiting artist LaFrae Sci will discuss and share ongoing work in subaquatic deconstructed techno soul in advance of the upcoming première of Fluency: The Language of Water and Who We Are, an immersive sonic experience wading through memories, dreams, and reflections regarding how water can divide and unite, while never being defeated.

Umm Kulthum and the Arabic Qasidah: Selection, Curation, and Performance
