Penn Symphony Orchestra

October 25, 2024 (Friday) — 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Irvine Auditorium - Main Hall
3401 Spruce St, Philadelphia, PA

The Penn Symphony opens their season with two epic symphonic works.  Ludwig van Beethoven's symphonic genius is on full display with his fourth symphony, imbuing all of nature's delightful sounds with its uplifting spirit.  The second half of the program features Gustav Mahler's symphony no. 1, whose opening mysteriously resembles the opening of the former composer's fourth symphony.  It promises to be an evening full of wondrous harmonies, sublime melodies and triumphant endings as the orchestra takes you on a magnificent journey into the sound world of these two symphonic icons.  Please join us for this special evening of glorious music-making!

This event is free and open to the public.

ABOUT PENN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The University of Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1878 and is comprised of musicians from throughout the University community, primarily non-music majors. The ensemble rehearses for four hours each week and performs a diverse range of repertoire drawn from the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth Centuries. The Penn Symphony Orchestra rehearses and performs in historic Irvine Auditorium on Penn’s Campus. Due to the increased number of student participation, the ensemble has expanded to two ensembles with rotating/interchangeable personnel.
