In keeping with this year’s overarching theme of resilience, Penn Flutes presents “Facing Fear”, a musical depiction of ideas, stories, traditions and world events that scare us— and how sometimes, we enjoy the experience! Every autumn brings a new collection of spooky stories and friendly ghosts, and we’ll share some of those through the music of Camille Saint-Saëns and Danny Elfman; The uncertainty of the New World, and the unfamiliar traditions of its native inhabitants, are explored in works by Frank Staneck and Phyllis Louke; and tales of struggles and triumph from centuries ago are brought to life in the music of Grant Horsely, Jonathan Cohen and Sergei Prokofiev.
