Zara Fox is a PhD student in Music Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She is interested in the interplay of orality and text in various chant traditions. Her research explores the diversity within the practice of Jewish cantillation, and seeks to identify humanistic similarities in oral traditions and textual interpretations across different religious practices. She focuses particularly on chant traditions which can be traced back to Early Medieval Paleographic notation, and the living musical traditions of those communities.
