"Remembering Nokutela" is a documentary film about Nokutela Dube, wife of the founding president of South Africa's ANC, and an educator, contributor to the Zulu newspaper Ilanga Lase Natal, musician, and composer of great talent.  Her grave was unmarked and her legacy forgotten for many years, until Prof. Keita's film led the South African government to offer her full recognition and honors for her pioneering role in local and international black struggles.

Cherif Keita is a professor in the French and Francophone Studies department at Carleton College where he teaches Francophone literature of Africa and the Caribbean, as well as advanced language courses.  A native of Mali, he has published books and articles on both social and literary problems in contemporary Africa.  He is the author of Massa Makan Diabate and Salif Keita:  L'oiseau sur le fromager.  He has completed a documentary film entitled "Oberlin-Inanda:  The Life and Times of John L. Dube" about the life of the first president of the African National Congress of South Africa and his education in the U.S. at the end of the 19th-century.
