ABOUT
Gabrielle Gillen is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences studying music and economics. She strives to be a film score composer in the entertainment industry. In addition to playing and singing jazz, she plays classical guitar and piano. Gabrielle enjoys painting, writing music, and spending time with her family.
Maxwell Du is a jazz pianist who studies computer science in Penn Engineering. He has been gigging since 9th grade and performs frequently around Penn's campus. Academically, he hopes to eventually combine his interest in music to his studies by applying artificial intelligence to music generation.
The Jazz Combos made their debut in 2005. Students audition and are then assigned a small group. Through coachings with professional instructors, they develop ensemble and improvisational skills in a variety of jazz styles. In addition to Music Department-sponsored performances, members of Jazz Combos often have other performance opportunities around the Penn campus. Jazz Combo performances are generally held in Rose Recital Hall.
