Dr. Jasmine Henry Quoted in CNN Article About Diversity Issues at Mainstream Award Shows

Assistant Professor in Music, Dr. Jasmine Henry (she/her) was recently quoted in a CNN article about diversity issues at mainstream award shows. Using Beyoncé as an example, Dr. Henry says: “(The Grammys) honor Black artists, but just enough to say that they did honor them … And many Black artists and artists of color are put in a R&B or rap music box, thus limiting the categories in which they can get nominated and win.” She then goes onto discuss the lack of representation within legacy institutions such as the Recording Academy, which presents the Grammys.
