Disenchanted Forest, for Clarinet and Piano was premiered by Todd Palmer and Ieva Jokubaviciute on August 8, 2015 at the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival where Reise served as composer-in-residence. The piece was commissioned by Preston Reed especially for the festival.
Recalling the discrepant sight of Fitzcarraldo's boat half-sunk in the still waters of the Amazon and the recent disturbing presence of coyotes in New York City, Disenchanted Forest is a mood-commentary on the present entropy of the wild-lands, with hope that they will return to their former glory when we are gone....
